Basic review for pain!! We knew about it, right?

Hi everyone,

It’s Takashi. I have not worked on this page for a while. But, I’m back!

When I see a new patient, I always explain how acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help.  It has been around for looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time in history as we all know, as Eastern medicine to the west. And more and more documents are produced based on the western scientific point of view. So, take a look at this one;

Acupuncture Works! Neck, Back, Arthritis & Headache Pain

11 SEPTEMBER 2012

A massive multi-year study of 17,922 patient outcomes has determined that acupuncture is effective for the treatment of neck and back pain, osteoarthritis, headaches and shoulder pain. This research is one of the largest and most sophisticated studies ever conducted on the efficacy of acupuncture. The findings were recently published in the prestigious Archives of Internal Medicine. The researchers conclude, “Acupuncture is effective for the treatment of chronic pain and is therefore a reasonable referral option.”

Acupuncture Works!In another recent study, researchers conclude that acupuncture is more effective than sham acupuncture and biomedicine for the treatment of knee pain. This study of 3,835 patient outcomes concludes, “Acupuncture provided significantly better relief from knee osteoarthritis pain and a larger improvement in function than sham acupuncture, standard care treatment, or waiting for further treatment.” The study notes that acupuncture for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis is “better at relieving pain and restoring function” than both conventional biomedical care and sham acupuncture. Yet another investigation between researchers from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, and the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine concludes that, “Recent clinical trial and systematic review results clearly show acupuncture to be more beneficial than conventional standard care for many pain conditions….”

Pretty much all of patients who visits YOMClinic see very dramatic effects of acupuncture during the treatment, in case of pain, especially. And that happens within a matter of second to a minute unless it is severe structural issue, such as broken born, torn muscle/ligament/tenden, etc…..

But please remember, it is merely one of the multiple effects of acupuncture. The key is “healing”, which we need to keep in our mind. Until it is completely fixed, pain will stick around, meaning that it will try to come back. Once it is gone, it is gone. You are done.  So if your goal is to make the pain to go away, please follow our treatment plan for you. Or it will be a temporary pain relief. We need to stabilize to make sure that the pain won’t come back. When it takes 5 visits, you need five visits. When it takes 10 visits, you need 10 visits. When it takes 15, 20, 25, visits…or more, we need to do that many treatments. It is just what it is depending on a severity of each case. However, if your goal is a pain management, let’s make sure that your pain is under control. We want to provide what you want us to do.

To gain maximum effects, we may recommend herbal medicine. Herbal medicine can be used same as acupuncture for pain issues. And we will ask you to follow our treatment plan, or it will be very difficult to achieve our goal.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us!! We offer free 15 min consultations for a new patient.
