ACUPUNCTURE:
Oriental Medicine is the oldest, literate medicine in the world, with over 2,500 years of written literature. Practitioners use acupuncture (and other therapies) to promote the body’s own natural healing power and to improve musculo-skeletal issues and imbalances in internal functioning. It is performed by inserting fine, sterile needles (and sometimes applying heat or electrical stimulation) at certain points on the body that are known to create particular effects.
Modern research shows acupuncture leads to the release of various neurotransmitters and hormones that affect most of the body’s systems (central nervous system, digestion, respiratory and cardiovascular systems, etc). The exact mechanism for this is not yet known, however we can see the effects: changes in blood flow, inflammation, pain, digestion, reproductive function, and more.
At YOMClinic, we use only sterile, disposable needles. Most people report a feeling of relaxation and well-being during and after the treatment.
SCOPE OFACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT
While acupuncture is often associated with pain control, in the hands of a well-trained practitioner it has much broader applications. Acupuncture can be effective as the only treatment used, or as the support or adjunct to other medical treatment forms, in many medical and surgical disorders. The World Health Organization recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of medical problems, including:
- Digestive disorders: gastritis and hyperacidity, spastic colon, constipation, diarrhea.
- Respiratory disorders: sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, recurrent chest infections.
- Neurological and muscular disorders: headaches, facial tics, neck pain, rib neuritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, various forms of tendinitis, low back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis.
- Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive problems.
